China Mobile is the hard case. A VPN that is fine on a home fiber link, or on Unicom in another city, can still reset on China Mobile hotel Wi-Fi and on a campus LAN. The SIM and the Wi-Fi are two tests. Passing one does not pass the other.
What "works" means here: pages keep loading for minutes, not a handshake that lasts ten seconds. If the app says connected and the next click does nothing, the flow was reset. Quit, switch location, connect again.
Time of day matters on this network. From 8:00pm to 11:00pm China time the lines are overloaded. Hong Kong and Singapore are the locations that hold up better then. During the day, switch nodes when the one you are on goes slow. Do not sit on a stalled exit because it was fast at lunch.
ExpressVPN and Nord failing on China Mobile is this pattern with older protocol menus. Toggling OpenVPN and a stealth mode is not a different network. Qiao uses Hysteria2 and a short location list. The list in the app is the one your plan includes.
